The Community Foundation’s goal is to enhance the quality of
life of the residents living and working in eastern and northeastern
Connecticut. We support nonprofit organizations that provide:
• Basic human services and health programs for those considered at risk
or in need
• Educational projects that enhance or increase learning opportunities,
especially for youth and underserved
• Artistic programs that increase access to the arts
•
Cultural Heritage projects that preserve eastern and northeastern Connecticut’s
rich history and educate the public
Grants are generally awarded in the $1,000 to $10,000 range, with
the majority of the larger grants awarded to human services and basic
needs
programs for those in need or at-risk, especially the poor.
Guiding Principals for Discretionary Grantmaking
• Strength of Project: The Community Foundation supports projects that
have clearly defined objectives, demonstrate strong community ties,
and promote values such as compassion, inclusiveness, and tolerance
• Significant Impact: The Community Foundation seeks projects where the
grant award, regardless of size, will make a notable contribution
toward improving lives
• Long-term Benefits: The Community Foundation is especially favorable
to projects that have benefits lasting beyond the term of the grant
